Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as second-in-command on the project team, working under the Associate to lead and manage all team functions and operations
  • Supervise a team of design professionals, overseeing surveys, calculations, selections, and layouts across all project phases
  • Direct the construction administration process, overseeing shop drawing review, field observations, and reporting
  • Serve as a respected technical authority, providing direction and higher-level plumbing and fire protection system design
  • Operate as a project manager in support of Associates, transcending standard Job Captain responsibilities
  • Collaborate with team leadership on client relationship management, ensuring client satisfaction and providing feedback for adjustments
  • Support business development by maintaining strong turnaround on work and cultivating client relationships
  • Assist the Associate with training, development, and project execution oversight of the design team
  • Provide input on staffing and team member career development

Key Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of experience as a Designer, including at least 2 years in a Lead Designer role, on a professional engineering project team under the direct or indirect supervision of a licensed professional engineer
  • Minimum 4 years of experience leading engineering projects of various sizes and complexities
  • 4-year Engineering degree
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and REVIT
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proven project management ability, with demonstrated experience managing direct reports against strict deadlines across multiple projects in a high-pressure environment
  • Highly organized, composed under pressure, and possesses a keen eye for detail
