Transportation Group Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Transportation Group, including Highway, Traffic, and Bridge practices
  • Lead, manage, and develop multidisciplinary teams of engineers, Project Managers, and technical professionals
  • Establish group goals and objectives aligned with overall strategic and business development plans
  • Oversee project delivery to ensure scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations are achieved
  • Serve as a senior technical and project management resource for complex transportation infrastructure projects
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with NJDOT, counties, municipalities, transportation authorities, and other public sector clients
  • Serve as a senior client contact and participate in key meetings, presentations, interviews, and project pursuits
  • Identify new business opportunities and develop strategies to expand market presence
  • Lead proposal development, scope and fee preparation, contract negotiations, presentations, and interview teams
  • Develop and maintain a strong project backlog and support the financial performance and utilization of the Transportation Group
  • Monitor staffing, workload, utilization, and project assignments
  • Recruit, retain, mentor, and develop engineers and Project Managers
  • Establish career development opportunities and succession plans for key team members
  • Promote collaboration across Highway, Traffic, Bridge, Civil, Geotechnical, Environmental, Water Resources, and Construction Engineering groups
  • Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for transportation projects
  • Participate in strategic planning and provide leadership insight on market conditions, staffing requirements, client needs, and growth opportunities

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Master’s degree in Civil, Transportation, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • New Jersey PE preferred or ability to obtain through reciprocity
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive transportation, highway, traffic, bridge, structural, or related infrastructure consulting experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex transportation projects through planning, design, permitting, bidding, and construction
  • Strong background in Highway, Traffic, Bridge, or a combination of these disciplines
  • Experience leading engineering teams and managing multiple Project Managers and technical professionals
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with transportation agencies and public sector clients
  • Strong understanding of project management, financial performance, staffing, quality control, and risk management
  • Demonstrated success in business development, proposals, client presentations, and strategic account management
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, recruiting, and staff development capabilities
  • Strong understanding of the New Jersey transportation market and public sector procurement
  • Experience leading a Highway, Traffic, and Bridge practice or group is highly desirable
  • Existing transportation client relationships and demonstrated ability to develop a strong project backlog are highly desirable
